Evaluation Automaton — map
Documentation status: reference — see Maturity and evidence.
map is one of the functional operators recognized by the current grammar.
It separates two responsibilities:
- traverse a collection;
- apply a function to each element.
Conceptual protocol
evaluate collection
-> obtain applicable function
-> select element
-> apply function
-> collect result
-> continue
-> rebuild result collection
Composition
map does not require a separate parallel engine: it composes the collection protocol with functional application.
This is an important example of the engine's multiparadigm character: a collection operator reuses functional evaluation instead of duplicating it.
Collection-level guarantees
Ordering, exact result shape, and empty-collection behavior belong to the contract of the relevant collection type. This page does not assign additional behavior that has not been certified.
