Declarative YAML reference

Documentation status: reference — see Maturity and evidence.

This section presents the recommended YAML forms for metadata examples.

Structural rules

  • a named key carries the DisplayName when the grammar allows it;
  • a compact scalar carries the DisplayValue when the grammar allows it;
  • a polymorphic list requires an explicit item type;
  • a value beginning with # must be quoted;
  • text: and cdata: are reserved for XML textual content;
  • historical XML shortcuts must not be invented in new YAML.
