Intentional UXfc components

Documentation status: reference — see Maturity and evidence.

An intentional UXfc component expresses a user activity independently from its graphical incarnation.

Intention before representation

Do not start by choosing a grid, window, or menu. Start by naming the activity that must be supported:

  • explore;
  • select;
  • consult;
  • compare;
  • edit;
  • validate;
  • navigate;
  • sequence.

The intention then determines data structures, relations between elements, interaction modes, assembly constraints, and UX coherence criteria.

Non-visual parameters

An intention may define:

  • data sources and contexts;
  • selection cardinality;
  • sequential, parallel, or reversible interaction;
  • context persistence;
  • validation constraints;
  • expected semantic events.

It does not define styling, geometry, or the final widget.
